Cheers Sam,

Yes some prices won't change much such as cables, DC isolators and AC breakers, mounting brackets and labour prices may go up. But the big commitment to solar in China likely will continue to drive module and inverter prices down. And there is so much R&D going into solar that we may see some big breakthroughs in technology in the next few years.

The analogy to open heart surgery - I liked it when I heard it too - from a crusty old auditor in the US. Extending the analogy - we have training and interships and training processes for surgeons, so when they finally get to operate on their own they are pretty good. But for energy efficiency its pretty well learn from your own mistakes...

Cheers,

Bruce

Thanks Bruce, another lucid summary of the issues.

It's no sure bet that prices will continue to plummet, I think there will come a point where labour and other BoS costs from increased regulation and OH&S issues will outweigh the cost of the modules and inverter.

I love the analogy of energy efficiency retrofits being akin to open heart surgery - very apt.
